Fan art of "Dagger" or Garnet, from the Classic PlayStation one game Final Fantasy IX. One of my all time favorite games.
I would say its a timeless masterpiece. Expect for the fact that its so clearly made on late 90`s tech. But that kind of gives it a nice other-worldly quality. Would not have it any other way.
Well its still fun to see how the characters would look like with newer tech and different art style.
This render of dagger started just as a face anatomy study, was suppose to be a quick uncolored sculpt. Once the head started to remind me of dagger, it escalated.
The original game has a very stylized art style that mimicked the older games in the series 2D sprites, making the proportions of the character shorter than real humans. Since I started with a more real world proportioned head, did not try to recreate the games style, just to maintain the feel of that charterer. Also did not try to copy all the details screen accurately, just have a fun nostalgic time.
Sculpted in ZBrush, retopod in Blender, textured with Substance Painter. Rendered with Blender using Eevvee.
The turntable gif down below made using Clip studio paint.
